Research statement

Veronica Rammouz is a Ph.D. student in Information Technology with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research focuses on understanding how AI models represent and use information internally, with an emphasis on fair and safe AI, specifically online abuse of AI controls. She works primarily through empirical methods, including natural language processing, to study model behavior and improve reliability at scale. Her research spans failure-informed disparity modeling, fair access controls, and understanding abuse in AI systems, supported by federal and industry-funded grants (e.g., NSF and Cisco). Her long-term goal is to develop trustworthy AI systems that are reliable, secure, and controllable across diverse real-world settings.
